HELP GUIDE

Making the grade

English Chess Federation (ECF) grades are now issued monthly - and are four-digit ELO-style. Details here
New memberships/renewals by post/telephone
Conversion
To work out how your grade would have looked under the previous system use the following calculation:

Take off 700, divide by 7.5.

For example, if your ECF grade is 1500:

1500 - 700 = 800 - divide by 7.5 = 106

Mastering the game

Grandmaster (GM) - a FIDE grade of at least 2,500
International Master (IM) - a minimum FIDE rating of 2,400
FIDE Master (FM) -  a minimum FIDE rating of 2,300 or more

Candidate Master (CM) - a minimum FIDE rating of 2,200
