FEBRUARY 14: The combined Bognor and Chichester A team enjoyed a crushing 5-1 away win at Fareham. Results: 1. Jaimie Wilson 1 J Coburn 0; 2. Bill McDougall 1 J Wicken 0; 3. Vinuda Gunatilake 1 T Black 0; 4. Tom Howeson 1 D Elliott 0; 5. LaraOsiyemi 1/2 A Syed; 6. Steve Smith1/2 J McBurnie.
FEBRUARY 8: Sad news to report that John Kalber, a long-serving member of the chess club, up to a year ago, has died. John was previously a member of Rustington Chess Club for many years until it stopped running. Those of us who remember John would have regarded him as a doughty opponent, who had a pretty high grade in his heyday, still with the ability to overcome stronger players with many a trick or two up his sleeve. Sadly, John was not in the best of health in recent times but despite being aged over 90 was more than capable of giving any opponent a strong game.
FEBRUARY 6: Bognor/Chichester's Cole Cup A team lost 2-3 to a strong Cosham side. Results: 1. Andrew McDougall 1/2 John Wheeler 2. Jaimie Wilson 1 - 0 David Cordner 3. Steven Smith 0 - 1 Will Grummitt 4. William McDougall 1/2 Richard Puchades 5. Ian Judd 0 - 1 Andrew Smith.

JANUARY 26: Bognor and Arun Chess Club clinched a semi-final place in the Paul Watson Trophy with a 2.5-1.5 victory over Horsham. JANUARY 12: Norbert Gyorke emerged victorious in the club's start-of-the-year Blitz tournament, organised by Jamie Wood. Norbert won a play-off against Jaimie Wilson, with whom he was level on points after five rounds. PICTURES
