JUNE 6: Jaimie Wilson has added the Chichester Chess Club Championship title to his Bognor Chess Championship title, won earlier this year. He beat Bill McDougall in the deciding game at Chichester.
MAY 21: Bognor Chess Club have won the Paul Watson trophy, named after the former long-serving secretary of the Sussex Chess Association. After beating Horsham and Haywards Heath in previous rounds they defeated Crowborough 3-1 at Horsham, the team being Jaimie Wilson, Nick Mansfield, Mike Spence and Mick Plumb.

MAY 3: The club's ‘chess challenge’ - an annual event at East Preston Festival - takes place on Saturday, June 15, 10am-12noon. It is being held again at the Seaview Hotel (BN16 1PD) in East Preston (garden when sunny). Visitors to the festival can sample chess in a nice, friendly environment without the pressures of the clock or grading!
The pub will be laying on (paid-for) coffee, tea and bacon sarnies. There’s an excellent lunch menu, too.

APRIL 29: Adam Rafael Holmes won the Under 10 Boys - Supremo trophy at the Surrey Megafinal yesterday. It is the first time he has taken part in this competition and he hoped to get 3.5 to qualify for the Gigafinal. The Megafinals are round 2 of the UK Chess Challenge in which 40,000 children are taking part through schools and clubs in the UK. The Gigafinal is the next round in July. Adam was ranked 9/48 and came first on tie breaks.

The undoubted highlight was Jaimie Wilson's conversion of bishop plus three pawns v bishop and two pawns against 213-rated Tony Corkett, believed to be the first win by a Chichester player against Tony for some years.
