DECEMBER 23: The draw for the club's annual Knockout tournament has been made and can be viewed here. Current holder Ian Schreiber plays Bill Partridge in the first round. Eighteen players are in contention - the largest entry for some years.
DECEMBER 21: Club member Michael Hemming fulfilled a lifetime's ambition by successfully completing The Knight's Tour in a pre-Christmas entertainment at the club. The Knight's Tour involves moving a knight around all of the chess board's 64 squares without being placed on a square twice. Michael achieved this without looking, with the moves being recorded on a display board. Assisting Michael was Jaimie Wilson, left, and Adam Rafael Holmes, centre.

JUNE 30: The club's top two players face each other in the semi-final of the Knockout Tournament - Jaimie Wilson and Rolandas Lukoshius battle it out for the right to play Ian Schreiber in the final. Jaimie has already clinched the championship title and is aiming to make it a club double.
MAY 17: It is with sadness we report the death of Gary Cox, who was a long-serving former member of the chess club. Gary, who passed away earlier this year, was an enthusiastic player, who took part in inter-club tournaments and also played for the county. Although no longer a current Bognor club member, he played chess regularly on the internet.
MAY 14: Bognor/Chichester C duly wrapped up the third division title with a thumping 4.5-.5 victory over their closest challengers, Portsmouth C. Scores: C Squires 1-0 S Russell; A Miller 1-0 P Eyles; B Partridge 0.5 A Bucchi; M Plumb 1-0 B Cochran; M Spence 1-0 A Colthup. Captain Mike steered the team to the number one spot, which Portsmouth could have denied them only if they had won 5-0. The clubs have won the division 1 and 3 titles again this season.

A road accident on the A27 meant Bognor players were heavily delayed, and lost a lot of time on the clocks. The Cole Cup was won by, Fareham, who beat Portsmouth A 3½1½.

The Knockout tournament's first round is now complete and the quarter final pairings complete. Knockout On Thursday, May 10, the Cole Cup Plate final takes place at Cosham, with the home team facing Bognor/Chichester. Then, on May 14, the C team hope to wrap up the division 3 title when they face Portsmouth C.
