AUGUST 26: Former member Martyn Arnold has been in touch to identify himself as the person in blue, second left, in the 1996 picture unearthed by another former member, Nigel Pestelle. He also spotted Robin Bavin, second right. Martyn now lives in Fareham, married with two children. He works as a web designer near Fareham but visits Chichester once a week as he runs a swimming club at Westbourne House in Chichester.

Captain Mike Spence reports: Peter had a very close equal end game against a junior but managed to win a rook pawn ending with only seconds to spare. Alex had a very convincing mate. Mike went a piece up to a blunder early on then returned the favour later, but got the better of an equal end game. Ian went down to a very strong opponent who managed to get a passed pawn in the centre of a muddled position. Warwick built up a solid position to outplay his opponent in the middle end game. As always, the match was much closer than the result suggests, particularly on boards 1 and 3. MAY 19: Chichester/Bognor B team's season is going down to the wire - their match with Cosham B stands at 1.5-1.5 with two games adjourned. Emsworth B have overtaken us at the top of division 2 but we can reclaim the title with a win and draw in the two remaining games.
MAY 4: Bognor/Chichester A are champions again. They drew 3-3 against Portsmouth, which combined with Emsworth's draw with Gosport, secures them the first division title. Result: 1. It's still in our hands, with a crucial match v Cosham B to come. That's despite a heavy 1-4 loss at home to Emsworth B. APRIL 24 Bognor/Chichester C have wrapped up the division 3 title with a comprehensive 4.5-.5 victory v Fareham C, a tremendous success for captain Mike Spence. There were wins for Peter Dallas, Alex Miller, Mike Spence and Laurence Willetts, with a draw from Pete McLeod.

MARCH 22: Bognor/Chichester C had a convincing 4-1 victory at Fareham D in division 3, leaving them well on course for the title. Captain Mike Spence reports: Peter had a very close equal end game against a junior but managed to win a rook pawn ending with only seconds to spare. Alex had a very convincing mate. Mike went a piece up to a blunder early on then returned the favour later, but got the better of an equal end game. Ian went down to a very strong opponent who managed to get a passed pawn in the centre of a muddled position. Warwick built up a solid position to outplay his opponent in the middle end game. As always, the match was much closer than the result suggests, particularly on boards 1 and 3.
