DEC 29: Chichester/Bognor teams lead divisions 1 and 2 and lie second in division 3 of the Portsmouth League as we enter 2017. Secretary John Wheeler has issued a set of end-of-year reports.

DEC 20: Chichester/Bognor A, defending their division one title, are still undefeated, having just secured a 4-2 victory over Cosham A - two adjourned games resulting in a win and draw for Chichester.

SEPTEMBER 2: Rolandas Lukosius took on 11 club members in a simul following the annual meeting. He won six, drew three ( Warwick Turner , Michael Hemming and Keith Davies ) and only lost two to Mike Spence and Jaimie Wilson.
AUGUST 26: The club's annual meeting takes place next Friday, September 2, at 7.30pm. There will be the usual presentation of trophies as well as a chance to discuss plans for next season. JUNE 10: East Preston Festival chess challenge was the best yet, with a record turnout of villagers taking on Bognor players in friendly games of chess. All seven boards were in constant use at the Seaview Hotel and new links were forged with chess-lovers who play regularly at Littlehampton library and Ham Manor Golf Club, Angmering. A match between Bognor and Ham Manor is a definite possibility. Bognor players did not have it all their own way in the challenge however - with villagers notching up some excellent victories. JUNE 9: East Preston Festival Chess Challenge is this Saturday (11th) between 10am and 12noon at the Seaview Hotel, 127 Sea Road, East Preston, BN16 1PD. For those of you who haven’t been before, it’s the chance to play some friendly chess during the festival fortnight in very pleasant surroundings, outside, weather permitting. Parking is limited at the pub but there are plenty of spaces nearby, on road, and in the car park in Sea Road, just before you get to the pub. The pub are laying on sausage/bacon sarnies, coffee etc., at reasonable prices.

MAY 17: Chichester/Bognor D gained a magnificent draw against Portsmouth C. Results: 1. Alex Miller ½ Stephen Russell; 2. Ian Richardson 0-1 Simon Venables; 3. Lloyd Jolley 0-1 Paul Eyles; 4. Philip Wake 1-0 Brian Cochran; 5. Tom Howeson 1-0 David Ransley.
MAY 10: Chichester/Bognor A failed to make it an unbeaten season, losing 0-4 at home to Emsworth A, with two games adjourned. Chichester/Bognor A were still clear winners of division one of the Portsmouth League, however. There were defeats for Bill and Andrew McDougall, Jaimie Wilson and Ian Judd, with Rolandas Lukosius and Lara Osiyemi playing on.
MAY 6: Chichester/Bognor C lost 1.5-3-5 against Emsworth C - despite going a point up thanks to a default. Keith Davies drew with Paul Northcott but there were defeats for Mick Plumb, Mike Spence and Warwick Turner.
MAY 5: Chichester/Bognor B beat Cosham B 3-1 away, with one game adjourned. Details: S LeFevre 1 R Lukosius 0; R Hartley 0 L Osiyemi 1; P McEvoy 0 I Judd 1; T. Evans 0 K Davies 1; M Banfield v M Plumb - adj. The result means the B team sit two points clear at the top of division two, having completed their fixtures. Fareham B, two points behind, face Portsmouth B in their last match.
MAY 4: It couldn't be tighter at the top of division 3 of the Portsmouth League, with three teams - Portsmouth C, Emsworth C and Chichester D - all on eight points. Chichester C, who have played one match less, will join the other three teams on eight points if they beat Emsworth C at home on Friday.
MAY 4: Rolandas Lukoshius is the new club champion - it's official! Dave Mawson - an unplayed opponent - is unable to complete his games so irrespective of the result of Rolandas' game against Ian Schreiber, he cannot be overtaken by Jaimie Wilson, last year's club champion. It also means Andrew Keil is declared winner of Group A of the Rapidplay, and he now qualifies to play Keith Davies in the semi-finals.
APRIL 22: This year's Summer Tournament starts on Friday, May 6, and ends on August 26. All games must be played at the Bognor Club. The rules are the same as last year and can be viewed here.

APRIL 14: Bognor/Chichester A enjoyed an amazing 4.5-.5 victory at Fareham against all the odds. Missing many key players and despite a car breakdown on route, there were excellent victories for Jaimie Wilson, Rolandas Lukosius, Ian Richardson and Alex Miller, with a draw on top board by Bill McDougall. Both teams defaulted board 4.
APRIL 7: Bognor/Chichester C lost 5-0 away to Portsmouth - leaving division 3 of the Portsmouth League wide open again.
APRIL 5: Bognor/Chichester D lost 3-2 at home to Emsworth C in division 3 of the Portsmouth League. The match included an astonishing last-few-seconds draw by Philip Wake and an excellent draw by young Tom Howson.

MARCH 24: Bognor/Chichester B kept in contention at the top of division 2 of the Portsmouth League - but it was hard-going against a strong Portsmouth B team. Fareham B, two points behind, face Portsmouth B in their last match.
MAY 4: It couldn't be tighter at the top of division 3 of the Portsmouth League, with three teams - Portsmouth C, Emsworth C and Chichester D - all on eight points. Chichester C, who have played one match less, will join the other three teams on eight points if they beat Emsworth C at home on Friday.
MAY 4: Rolandas Lukoshius is the new club champion - it's official! Dave Mawson - an unplayed opponent - is unable to complete his games so irrespective of the result of Rolandas' game against Ian Schreiber, he cannot be overtaken by Jaimie Wilson, last year's club champion. It also means Andrew Keil is declared winner of Group A of the Rapidplay, and he now qualifies to play Keith Davies in the semi-finals.
APRIL 22: This year's Summer Tournament starts on Friday, May 6, and ends on August 26. All games must be played at the Bognor Club. The rules are the same as last year and can be viewed here.
APRIL 19: It was an emphatic result in the Cole Cup Plate clash with Emsworth B. Details: 1. J. Wilson 1 - 0 P. Northcott; 2. A. McDougall 1 - 0 N. Parekh; 3. R. Lukoshius 1 - 0 M. Davies; 4. J. Allen 1 - 0 D. Cook; 5. A. Miller 1 - 0 S. Barron.
APRIL 14: Bognor/Chichester A enjoyed an amazing 4.5-.5 victory at Fareham against all the odds. Missing many key players and despite a car breakdown on route, there were excellent victories for Jaimie Wilson, Rolandas Lukosius, Ian Richardson and Alex Miller, with a draw on top board by Bill McDougall. Both teams defaulted board 4.
APRIL 7: Bognor/Chichester C lost 5-0 away to Portsmouth - leaving division 3 of the Portsmouth League wide open again.
APRIL 5: Bognor/Chichester D lost 3-2 at home to Emsworth C in division 3 of the Portsmouth League. The match included an astonishing last-few-seconds draw by Philip Wake and an excellent draw by young Tom Howson.

MARCH 24: Bognor/Chichester B kept in contention at the top of division 2 of the Portsmouth League - but it was hard-going against a strong Portsmouth B team. The match ended all-square, with the following results: S Venables 0 Rolandas Lukosius 1; I Matthew 1 Lara Osiyemi 0; D Ross 1 W Partridge 0; D Popivic .5 Keith Davies; S Russell 0 Mick Plumb 1. The team's final match is away to Cosham B on May 5.
MARCH 19: Chichester D earned bragging rights over their C team rivals with a 3-2 win at Bognor. The win meant they leapfrogged the C team in the division 3 table. D team winners were Rafa Harbour, Philip Wake and Lloyd Jolley.
MARCH 15: Chichester/Bognor A have clinched the division one title ... with two matches still to play. They stand 3-2 against Portsmouth A with one game, Bill McDougall v Mark Broom, adjourned. The match position guarantees us the title.There were wins for Jaimie Wilson and Keith Davies, plus draws from Lara Osiyemi and Rolandas Lukosius, with defeat for Andrew McDougall.
MARCH 8: Chichester/Bognor D had a highly impressive 5-0 win against Fareham C. Star man was Lloyd Jolley, originally due to miss out as his board 5 was defaulted, who was then switched to board one when Chi D's original choice was not available to play ... and won.

FEBRUARY 17: Lara Osiyemi won his adjourned game with Clive Gilliam in Bognor/Chichester B team's division 2 match with Emsworth B - which meant the match ended 2.5-2.5. In an outstanding division one match, Rolandas Lukosius agreed a draw with John Wilkinson of Gosport, which resulted in a score of 5.5-.5 to Bognor/Chichester A.
